1. What We Don't Collect
Calidus collects nothing. Not names, not emails, not food logs, not usage data. The app is designed to work entirely offline, with zero network calls for user data.
Zero Collection Means:
- No personal information — No name, email, phone, or account
- No food logs uploaded to us — Meals, recipes, and calories stay on your device, or sync directly to your own iCloud if you turn that on. We never receive a copy.
- No health data sent to us — Weight, activity, and HealthKit data stay on your device (and your own iCloud, only if you opt into sync)
- No location tracking — We don't request or access location
- No device IDs — No unique identifiers collected
- No analytics — We don't track how you use the app
- No crash reports — No automatic error reporting
- No contacts, photos, or other apps' data
2. How Calidus Works
Local Storage Only
All your data is stored locally on your device using iOS's secure storage APIs. This includes:
- Food logs and meal history
- Saved recipes
- Weight entries
- Calorie goals and activity settings
- App preferences (units, appearance, etc.)
No Account, Sync Is Your Choice
Calidus works without an account. There's no sign-up, no login, no password. By default, your data stays entirely on your device. If you turn on the optional iCloud sync (Settings → iCloud Sync), your log, weight, and fasting history sync directly between your own devices through Apple's iCloud — using your existing iCloud account, not one of ours. We never operate a server for this and never receive, see, or store a copy of your data at any point.
Offline by Design
The app works 100% offline. The food database (USDA FoodData Central) is bundled with the app. No internet connection is required after installation.
3. iCloud Sync (Optional)
Calidus offers an optional iCloud sync feature (Settings → iCloud Sync) for people who use Calidus on more than one device, or want a backup if they get a new phone.
- Off by default — sync only turns on if you explicitly enable it
- Your iCloud, not ours — synced data (food logs, recipes, weight, fasting history) travels through Apple's CloudKit, stored in the private iCloud database tied to your own Apple ID
- We have no server and no access — Maneo House cannot see, read, or receive this data at any point; it moves directly between your devices via Apple's infrastructure
- Turn it off anytime — disabling sync in Settings stops future syncing; deleting the app removes the local copy, and you can delete the iCloud copy from iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage
4. Food Database & Data Sources
Calidus uses two trusted food databases to power food search and nutrition data:
- USDA FoodData Central — U.S. Department of Agriculture's public domain nutritional database of 300,000+ foods
- Open Food Facts — A collaborative, open-source database of food products worldwide, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL)
These databases are not personal data. They're publicly available nutritional references. When you search for "chicken breast" or scan a barcode, Calidus matches your query against these databases and returns the results.
5. HealthKit Integration (Optional)
Calidus offers optional integration with Apple HealthKit to read:
- Active Energy — Calories burned through movement
- Steps — Daily step count
- Weight — If you log weight in Apple Health
You Control HealthKit Access
HealthKit integration is entirely optional. The app works fully without it. If you grant access:
- Data is read only when you open the app
- HealthKit data stays on your device and is never uploaded to us — the only exception is your own iCloud, and only if you've turned sync on
- You can revoke access anytime via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Calidus
- We don't write data to HealthKit (read-only access)
6. Camera Access (Optional)
Calidus requests camera access only if you choose to scan food barcodes. This feature is entirely optional—you can search and log foods manually instead.
What Happens When You Scan
- The camera processes the barcode locally on your device
- The barcode number is matched against the bundled food database (offline)
- No images are captured, stored, or transmitted
- No barcode data leaves your device
7. Cross-Promotion of Other Apps
Calidus displays promotional banners for other apps in the Maneo House portfolio (e.g., Skrim, owlWriter). These are "house ads"—first-party promotions, not third-party advertising.
What This Means
- No tracking — We don't track which promos you view or tap
- No targeting — Promos aren't personalized based on your behavior
- No third parties — No ad networks, no data sharing with advertisers
- Privacy-preserving — The promo system fetches a static list of apps (no user data sent)
8. Data You Share (Optional)
Calidus includes an optional Day Sharing feature. If you choose to share a food log:
- You generate a
.kcaldayfile (a local export) - You choose how to share it (AirDrop, Messages, email, etc.)
- The file is shared only with the recipient you select
- No data is sent to Maneo House or any server
- Only the recipient with Calidus installed can open and view the file
You are in complete control of what you share and with whom.
9. No Third-Party Services
Calidus does not integrate with any third-party services, SDKs, or analytics platforms. This includes:
- No Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or similar
- No Facebook SDK, advertising networks, or attribution tools
- No cloud storage providers (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.)
- No social media logins or sharing integrations
10. Data Deletion
Because your data lives on your device (and, only if you opted in, your own iCloud), you have complete control over deletion:
Delete All Data
- Uninstall the app — Deleting Calidus from your device permanently removes all food logs, recipes, weight entries, and settings
- iOS automatically deletes app data when you uninstall
Delete Specific Data
Within the app, you can:
- Delete individual food entries
- Clear entire meals
- Remove saved recipes
- Delete weight log entries
No data deletion requests are needed because we never have your data in the first place — including anything synced via iCloud, which sits in your own account, not ours. To remove a synced copy, delete it from iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.
11. Children's Privacy
Calidus is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Because the app doesn't collect any personal information at all, there's no risk of inadvertently collecting children's data.
Parents: If you believe your child is using Calidus, rest assured that no personal information is being collected or transmitted.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Post the new policy at kilocal.maneo.house/privacy
- If changes are significant, we'll notify users via an in-app message
Core Commitment: We will never introduce data collection or tracking without your explicit, informed consent — which is exactly how iCloud sync works today: off by default, and only active if you turn it on.
13. Legal Basis (GDPR/CCPA Compliance)
Because Calidus itself never collects, processes, or stores any personal data on any server we operate (iCloud sync, when a user opts in, runs entirely through Apple's infrastructure and the user's own account):
- GDPR — No personal data is processed, so GDPR obligations (consent, right to erasure, etc.) don't apply
- CCPA — No personal information is sold or shared with third parties
- Data Controller — You are the sole controller of your data (it's on your device)

15. Open Source & Transparency
We believe in transparency. If you're a developer or security researcher interested in verifying our privacy claims, reach out—we're happy to discuss how Calidus's privacy architecture works.
Our Privacy Promise
Calidus will always be privacy-first. Your food logs, weight, and health data are yours alone. No accounts, no tracking, and no servers of ours — ever. Syncing across your own devices is entirely optional, and entirely yours.
